As official paint sponsors of The Whitworth Art Gallery, we were proud to provide paint for their current exhibition, (Un)Defining Queer. Little Greene colours that reflect those used in the Transgender Pride flag were selected to create an immersive and welcoming space that champions the LGBTQIA+ community.

(Un)Defining Queer seeks to amplify and engage with LGBTQIA+ communities as it presents a collection of works that are interpreted through a queer lens. In partnership with the LGBT Foundation, the exhibition invites visitors to contribute to The Whitworth’s ‘Queer Glossary’, which will give representation and visibility to the often-marginalised community.

Little Greene colours were chosen to complement the themes of the exhibition. Confetti, Pale Wedgwood and Shirting work in combination to symbolise the Transgender Pride flag and create a bright and powerful backdrop to the displayed artwork.

Exhibition producer, Dominic Bilton, said: “We’ve got over 70 artworks in the exhibition, and I really hope that people feel inspired, and get a sense of history and community from it. I hope people come away from this exhibition proud of who they are regardless of whether or not they are queer.”

Our Creative Director, Ruth Mottershead, said: “Our head office is situated just down the road from the Whitworth, and we’re always delighted to assist with colours for the gallery, which is such an important part of the community.
Especially within the context of LGBT+ history month, we really hope this colour combination makes a bold statement and joins with the other elements of the exhibition in creating a space where all feel welcome.”
