Use masonry paint to create a cohesive, colourful scheme

Whether it be extending the use of colours from an interior scheme, choosing colours to complement an existing window or front door, or creating a brand new exterior design scheme from scratch using the Little Greene palette, the new Intelligent Masonry Paint creates long lasting, beautifully considered exterior transformations that add instant kerb appeal.

To enliven your garden space with an updated colour palette, select bright and colourful shades that add joy and personality. Or combine different shades of green to complement the surrounding foliage and create the illusion of space.

Explore our guide to choosing complementary colours.

Selecting a finish

Our Intelligent Masonry Paint formula is highly water-resistant, with advanced adhesive properties and a tough coating. This formula provides effective protection against the elements, and long-lasting depth of colour.

When applied with the correct technique, our environmentally friendly water-based masonry paint dries quickly to a pleasingly smooth matt finish.

Our formula is dirt resistant, making it the perfect choice for brickwork, render or cement blockwork. With anti-fungal and anti-ageing technology, you can protect and weatherproof your home for up to 15 years.

Beyond painting exterior walls, consider alternative ways to refresh your outdoor space.

Consider the texture of your surface when painting an exterior wall

Our Intelligent Masonry Paint finish is suitable for use on all exterior masonry, including render, brick or cement block work walls.

When painting smooth masonry surfaces, use a high-quality synthetic paint brush, or a short nap roller for the best finish. Whereas, for textured exterior walls, paint with a longer nap roller, to ensure even coverage.

Read our expert guide on how to paint an exterior wall for maximum durability.

The texture of your exterior wall can also affect which colours you choose. If your wall has a rough surface, harness its character with soft stone shades or warm neutrals to create a rustic and earthy effect. Green Stone - Light is a gentle neutral based on naturally occurring green stones which often contain traces of copper, or cobalt. Coordinate with floral hanging baskets and the light Pea Green on exterior doors for a beautiful, homely feel.

If your building has old, damaged or lime rendered walls, consider using our traditional Limewash paint for a breathable finish.

Smooth rendered walls can feel more contemporary, meaning they provide a fabulous opportunity to embrace brighter, bolder colours that create impact. Vibrant blues and greens come to life in sun-drenched outside spaces, where the bright natural light draws out their rich pigmentation. Canton is a blue-green colour inspired by Chinese textiles, perfect for evoking distant, tropical locations. Or choose the bold blue, Smalt, to capture a distinctive Mediterranean atmosphere. Accessorise with exotic, potted plants in a range of colours to add texture and interest.

Even if your outside space is limited to a small backyard, you can still add colour by painting an exposed brick wall. Choose a rich shade such as the soft brownish red, Ashes of Roses, which offers both warmth and personality. Introduce a vibrant green on your garden furniture to add vibrancy.

Recommended colours for exterior masonry

Painting your exteriors is a great opportunity to incorporate bolder colours. Be brave by using a selection of vibrant and playful tones alongside more subdued neutrals for an overall sense of balance. Carmine is a fun pink that provides an eye-catching accent against neutrals like Knightsbridge.

Low Wall: Carmine

Arras is a rich, sumptuous deep red that provides a statement backdrop in an outdoor barbeque area. Pair with Loft White for a strong and contemporary contrast.

Stool: Bone China Blue

Consider how the colours you choose will complement their surrounding environment. Colours like Air Force Blue contrast beautifully with natural greenery for a calm and relaxed sitting area.

Or add interest to your outdoor breakfast bar with a contemporary colour blocking scheme. Use a combination of Juniper Ash and Slaked Lime to coordinate with botanical elements.
