Little Greene

Chicago-based interior designer, Kate Marker, used Little Greene colours and wallpapers to transform her home into a light, tranquil and comforting sanctuary. Explore her timeless interior design style and discover the colour palette she chose for her Barrington Project…

Principal Designer & Owner of Kate Marker Interiors, Kate Marker is renowned for her calm, cosy design style that effortlessly marries beauty with practicality. She utilises comforting textural elements, natural materials and elegant, understated colour palettes to create consistently beautiful interiors, curated for each client.

The Barrington Project is the renovation of Kate’s own home in Barrington, Illinois, where her interior design studio is based. Following our launch in the USA in September 2023, she was able to select shades from the Little Greene palette to provide a refined backdrop that flows from room to room.

Guests are welcomed into her foyer with the fresh, inviting hues of Bath Stone, which contains ochre undertones that deliver enveloping warmth. This warm neutral is juxtaposed with the moody grey, Attic II, on the bookcase in the adjoining living room. Here, the introduction of our Poppy Trail wallpaper in the Portland Stone colourway provides an additional textural element, bringing an innate sense of comfort and cosiness when combined with natural wicker.

In the majority of her home, Kate has opted for the sophisticated warm white, Flint, on the walls and ceilings. With its purely mineral makeup, this versatile shade is the perfect accompaniment to natural bare wood, soft furnishings and elegant light fixtures. The use of one shade throughout creates a sense of unity and integrity, connecting peaceful snugs and busy, open-plan family rooms with an overarching atmosphere of calm.

Kate has observed the same colour palette upstairs, using Flint in the bedrooms to create a series of serene, restful settings. In the guest room, she chose the natural muted green, Green Stone, to provide a touch of colour contrast in the overall palette. A smart alternative to classic neutral walls, Green Stone evokes nature and delivers a soothing, cocooning effect.
