A season of renewal, spring is a time when many of us seek to refresh our home environment with colours that will make us feel happy and uplifted. Your kitchen truly is the heart of your home, so it’s the perfect place to start as you revive your living space for the longer, brighter days ahead.
Our Creative Director, Ruth, shares her top five ideas for your spring kitchen refresh – whether you choose to complete a full renovation, or simply update your kitchen cabinetry for a small yet effective change…
Embrace a lively colour palette
Ruth writes: “The kitchen is the heart of the home, a hive of activity, and a social place for entertaining; it’s therefore an ideal place to make an impact with vibrant colour choices. Bright, joyful and energetic yellows such as ‘Giallo’ and ‘Indian Yellow’ are perfect for kitchens and dining spaces.”
One of the brightest yellows in our palette, Indian Yellow is a fabulous choice to bring a dose of sunshine to your kitchen. Used on all four walls, this mood-boosting yellow is very effective when paired with contrasting bold colours. So don’t be afraid to use Indian Yellow as a backdrop to existing bright shades on your cabinetry or floors, creating a lively, wraparound scheme. For added vibrancy, introduce the verdant Hopper on the skirting boards.
Colour drench your kitchen in Bombolone
Ruth writes: “I love to see kitchen spaces drenched in colour, across woodwork, walls and kitchen cabinetry. Existing cabinetry and surfaces can be brought together with the simple addition of a unifying colour.
The timeless mellow, honeyed shade, Bombolone, delivers a warm, comforting glow that is perfect for kitchens or pantries. This mid-gold exudes warmth and makes a statement without being too bold.”
Update kitchen cabinetry
Ruth writes: “Our Intelligent Paints are the ideal choice for kitchens. Available in all colours, they are all water-based, hard-wearing, totally washable, environmentally friendly and easy to apply. For kitchen cabinets, select a hard-wearing, washable finish such as Intelligent Satin, which will withstand the knocks of a busy home.”
Especially designed for painting kitchen cabinetry, our Intelligent Satin finish allows you to transform the look and feel of your kitchen scheme without painting the whole room. Consider repainting your kitchen cabinets in a sophisticated deep blue such as Juniper Ash. This inky shade will create elegant contrast alongside bright white walls and add instant depth and character to your existing scheme.
Evoke nature with a calming green backdrop
Ruth writes: “Green is a clever choice for kitchens as its neutrality provides a steady base to coordinate bolder tones. The make-up of green is neither too warm nor too cold, perfect for open plan living where there maybe varying light within one space.”
If you are looking for an alternative to neutral or white kitchen walls, consider a classic muted green such as Normandy Grey. With a real timeless quality, this versatile shade sits comfortably in both traditional and contemporary kitchen schemes. It accompanies wood, metal and marble finishes with ease, and creates a beautiful transition to outdoor spaces.

Introduce a textural element with wallpaper
Ruth writes: “Kitchens can be quite stark spaces, filled with hard surfaces and reflective finishes. Adding a wallpaper to a kitchen will create texture, softening hard surfaces, bringing pattern and design interest to a scheme.
The versatile all-over, small-scale print, Ditsy Block – Bombolone, lends itself perfectly to busy kitchen environments, even when papering just a small section of wall. Rather than opting for the habitual bright white ceiling, paint your ceiling in a tonal colour that coordinates with your wallpaper for a cohesive ‘colour drenched’ look.”
