Colour has a transformative ability to bring life, joy and personality to your home, delivering truly welcoming spaces where you can feel relaxed and uplifted. Our upgraded Intelligent Paints provide even more opportunities to introduce beautiful colour in every room, suitable for painting your walls, woodwork, cabinetry, radiators and more.

The home of Stacey from @end_of_the_row offers an abundance of ideas for how you can incorporate colour into your interior designs. Read about her kitchen-dining project, where she used our self-priming Intelligent Eggshell finish on cabinetry to create a wonderful focal point that adds design interest to neutral walls…

Tell us about your recent kitchen project. What was your vision for this space?

“The kitchen-dining area is where we spend lots of time and, although it’s a lovely space with original features, it was lacking in the pop of colour I wanted to make it sing! The cupboards were already an ochre-yellow, and I love how a teal against the yellow gives a beautiful vintage feel.”

How did you choose to pair Pleat with Flint?

Pleat is the perfect warm-toned teal that comes to life when the sun hits it. We painted the cupboards on both sides of the fireplace so that as you walk into the room, the colour hits you. To complement this, I wanted a fresh white rather than the yellow-based white that was there before. Flint was the perfect pairing.

I knew it needed to be a fresh clean white to ensure the Pleat was impactful. It also needed to work with the other tones in the room, and I found this was such a great all-round neutral that had no muddy undertones.”

What was your experience of using our new self-priming Intelligent Paints? How did they change your decorating process?

“It made the whole process much easier, as it meant there was no need for priming. Living in a renovation home, if there’s a product that means I can skip out a process, then I’m all for it!”

Your Pleat cabinets are just one example of how you thoughtfully incorporate colour in different rooms in your home. What do you feel this use of colour brings to your schemes?

“I couldn’t imagine a home without colour. For me, when I think about my happy childhood memories, it’s colour and scent that bring it all back. I can remember the carpet colours in my nan’s house, the colour of their house bricks, the tree shades around the holiday camps we visited. Colour is nostalgic for me and besides that, it brings a space to life. It adds interest, creates a talking point, and contributes to the warmth of a home. No good story ever starts with a plain white room!”

Finally, can you share your top three interior design tips?

“1. Go with what you love…that way, every room will work harmoniously.

2. If there’s two choices between the safe option and the bold option, always go bold.

3. Live in a room before you decorate and dress it. A room, like a garden, will look different in each season, so live in it for a while first.”
