In recent years, people have become more conscious of the products they use and the impact they have on the environment. When it comes to choosing brands for our homes, we place importance on high quality, sustainable materials.

At Little Greene, we design all our paints with your home and the environment in mind. Our water-based paints contain natural, organic and safe synthetic pigments without any dangerous ingredients. So, you can use our paints in all areas of your home, free from worry.

Read our guide to eco-friendly wall paint to discover what makes Little Greene the best eco choice for your home.

What makes a paint eco-friendly?

There are several factors that can determine whether paint is eco-friendly. The most eco-friendly paints in the UK are defined by:

  • VOC content
  • Quality of ingredients
  • Recyclable/recycled packaging
  • Durability & length of life
  • Manufacturing & delivery

With our own factory in the foothills of Snowdonia, we know exactly what goes into our environmentally friendly paints. Each tin contains a combination of high-quality minerals and organic raw materials, ethically sourced from local, UK-based suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability.

Highly pigmented formulations give Little Greene paint superb coverage and opacity. This means fewer coats of paint are needed, which saves energy, materials and transport, and provides a sustainable and economical option for any home.

Our Intelligent water-based paints are safe to use in kitchens, bathrooms, nurseries and family rooms. You can rest assured that every ingredient has been hand-picked to create a practical, beautiful and high quality product that is repeatedly endorsed by homeowners, interior designers and professional decorators.

Are water-based paints environmentally friendly?

Each of our water-based finishes is low-odour, quick-drying and contains almost no VOCs. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are chemicals found in most household products, which are emitted into the wider environment when they evaporate.

We offer two water-based matt emulsion paints for walls: Intelligent Matt Emulsion and Absolute Matt Emulsion. With a slightly higher sheen of 10-15%, Intelligent Eggshell is also water-based and is recommended for kitchen or bathroom walls in the splash zone.

Being water-based, these paints require no specialist thinners or cleaners. Instead, our water-based paints are washable with warm, soapy water – saving you time and protecting the planet.

Which paints are safest for pets and children?

Our water-based Intelligent finishes are certified child and pet-safe under BS EN 71-3: 2019. These certifications make our paints ideal for use in children’s bedrooms, nurseries and playrooms, as well as high-traffic areas like kitchens, bathrooms and hallways. Fully washable and long-lasting, our durable paint finishes are not only kind to the environment, but also practical for your home.

Our Which? recommended finish, Intelligent Matt Emulsion, is a perfect way to introduce colour to your little one’s bedroom walls and ceilings. Which? tested this water-based finish alongside nine different matt emulsion paints from brands across the industry. The test results proved that our product could resist tough stains and all the wear and tear of family life.
